The guys that came to move me were a terrific crew. Although I was promised 4 people to do the move, the three that came (Joseph, Alejandro, and I can't remember the third name -- I just called him Spiderman because of how fast he wrapped my furniture), were up to the job. They worked quickly, and exceeded my expectations (based on previous moves).

I have had some HORRIBLE moving experiences... and I was dreading this move back to the east coast, but the two movers who showed up were AWESOME.. Their names were Gregory and Stephan. The men could not have been more helpful, careful, or generally nicer to work with. I was so relieved by what could have been a nightmare. This group of 8 movers and 2 trucks (3 1/2 large loads) were as good as they could be!

The workers came a half hour early and did not have the equipment to move my piano. The move was then extended 30 extra minuets to wait for the piano moving exqupment to arrive. Only two of the movers were really working. The others were just really slacking. I would use Flat Rate again because overall the job got done. Oh, and then they got lost coming here.

More than a Very Satified job, I have to say, without the CREW who came to packed and unpacked, I have the most respectful CREW on hand both in California and in Florida. Driver is so well informative on his delivery to Florida and how well he got our households delivered with almost no damage but a FEW at the most maybe 6 items. Job well done on both ends. The Los Angeles movers were GREAT- very friendly, very careful with our belongings. The only problem I had was with billing- I changed the credit card to be charged 24 hours before the move and the change was completely disregarded which was a very BIG problem. It was corrected as quickly as possible; which is all I could ask for. I would most definitely recommend FlateRate in the future- and the next time I move will be using FlateRate LA services.

There is only one thing more alluring than the thought of moving to Los Angeles, and that is the hope of conquering the big city. But in moving there, you realize that it's not you who conquers, but LA. It is an entirely new world, 'for sure'. It might be the City of Angels, but you'll need to pray to your guardian angel to move here safely. That's right, Los Angeles is a mover's nightmare. The city is, of course, literally moving: the area's twenty million residents are constantly driving to-and-fro, and all too often the ground ends up moving too. Maybe the only things that don't move around here are the freeways. But, against all odds, this city of immigrants and migrants makes moving in a challenge. Maybe it's an admissions test of sorts; those who are strong enough to survive the gauntlet of moving into LA deserve the reward of enjoying the city. The weak are left by the side of the road, wondering what happened.
Trying to self-move into LA was my first mistake. Trying to navigate the maze of freeways ("the five", "the four-oh-five", "the one-ten", and all the rest) is an adventure best left for the professionals. This may be a city built for the automobile, but it doesn't come with easy directions. It took a couple stops at gas stations to make the intersection of "the" 101 and "the" 110 make sense to a newcomer.
Traffic is a nightmare, and it only gets worse at night. The drivers make the roads even more of an adventure. I've moved several times in the past , most of the time with different companies but i just had the best move in my life on the last week with [OPEN]. Marian gave us a guaranteed price over the phone and help us plan our move. Soon their local dispatch called us and confirmed the job and went over the details.He also seemed very polite and professinal,- i believe hi's name was Chris- and assured us everything is going as it planed and the movers will come tomorow @ 9 am. Not only did they show up on time but they packed nearly our entire apartment. Shortly after arriving Cleo the forman provided us with detailed information about the day and they started to work right away. Thank god they came with extra boxes and moving supplies and actually that we didn't even realize we will be needed! Steer clear of Merit Moving Systems (United Van Lines) (12/12/2006)
Cant tell you who you should use, but I can tell you from my experience who to steer clear of! We used Merit Moving Systems (United Van Lines) for a move from Palm Desert, CA to San Antonio,TX. My furniture was in perfect, model home or showroom condition when it left California. When it arrived here in Texas my dining room hutch had a deep gouge in it. My arm chairs were all nicked up and parts of the fancy carved areas on the arms were gone. My living room table had the finial at the bottom broken off of it and I am missing one of my end tables. I am sure there are other things that are missing or have been destroyed or damaged in some way, but I havent gotten to everything yet. I filed a claim for the things I did know about - namely my dining room set. It originally cost a little over $25,000 for the set and now it is ruined! They denied my claim, saying that it was already like that when they moved it here. I have photos to prove that it was not damaged before they got a hold of it! Anyway, its just too big of a hassle to deal with right now, so I am letting this go for now. But More...
